How the guitar fretboard works
A guitar’s frets divide each string into semitone steps. Moving one fret toward the body raises the pitch by one semitone; moving twelve frets raises it by one octave.
The highlighted chord dots show where to place each finger. A muted string is omitted from the strum, while an open string is played at fret zero.

Frequently asked questions
What tuning does the virtual guitar use?
Standard tuning is E2, A2, D3, G3, B3 and E4 from the lowest string to the highest. Drop D and open G are also available.
Are the fretboard notes accurate?
Yes. Every fret raises the open string by one semitone, and each synthesized pitch is calculated from standard A4 = 440 Hz tuning.
Can I practise beginner chords?
Yes. Select C, A, G, E, D, Am, Em, Dm or F to see the fingering, then use a strum button to hear it.
