01

A spread-out city needs a different kind of class

Hyderabad is large and doesn't have one centre. HITEC City, Gachibowli, Kukatpally, Secunderabad, Banjara Hills and Uppal each work like their own town, and travelling between them can take an hour on a bad day.

That makes a weekly in-person class a gamble. You pick a studio, find that it's forty minutes away at peak hour, and by the second month the lesson depends on whether you left work on time. Many students drop out for that reason alone.

An online class removes the gamble. You learn in your living room, from whatever part of the city you live in, and the teacher is the same in every case.

02

Choosing a teacher, not a location

When the class is online, the only question that matters is who teaches you. That's what the free demo is for: 30 minutes with the teacher, a first chord, and a plan. You decide afterwards.

The lessons are taught by Arya Sen, who has played guitar for 12+ years and taught for 8+. Jam and Play has taught more than 1,000 students across 40+ countries, so teaching someone in a different city is routine for us. Read more on the founder page.

03

What learning looks like week to week

A typical week has one 45-minute live lesson. After it, you get a practice plan: a chord, a rhythm or part of a song, usually 15 to 20 minutes a day. The next lesson starts by checking that work. The teacher fixes what went wrong and adds one new thing.

After a pack of four lessons, you decide whether to carry on. There's no lock-in, and nobody will chase you.

That structure is deliberately simple. Guitar rewards short, regular practice much more than occasional long sessions, and a weekly lesson with a small daily task suits that.

04

Fit for Hyderabad schedules

Hyderabad has a large IT workforce, and many people there finish work late. A studio that closes at nine isn't much use to them. We teach until 10 pm every day, so a 9 pm lesson is possible after you have eaten and settled in.

School students have a different pattern. Their evenings are busy, but weekends are open, and a Saturday morning lesson works well. Because there's no travel, a child can fit a lesson between tuition and dinner without a car journey.

05

Languages

Lessons run in Hindi or English, and you choose at the demo. Chord names are the same in any language, so a student who is more at home in Telugu but follows Hindi or English can learn comfortably. Many students in southern cities do exactly that.

06

What you will learn

Beginners start with how to hold the guitar, the names of the strings, and two open chords. Within a month, most students can change between four chords at a slow tempo and play the opening of a simple song.

Students who already play can work on strumming patterns, barre chords and fingerpicking. If you'd like a song-first approach, our Bollywood guitar lessons start from a Hindi film song you pick. If you'd like a structured plan, see private online guitar lessons.

There is currently no separate electric guitar course; ask at the demo if you want to know what's possible.

07

Learning with a sibling or friend

Two students can share a lesson. A pack of four shared lessons costs ₹3,200 against ₹3,999 for a private pack, and you get a practice partner. Read more about online group guitar classes.

Kids and exams

Children can start at 8. Parents often ask about Trinity or Rockschool grade exams, which many Hyderabad schools and music institutes encourage. We teach the syllabus and prepare students for the exam; we're not an exam centre, so the exam is held at an authorised one. See exam preparation and online guitar lessons for kids.

10

What you need to start

A guitar, a phone or laptop with a camera, and a chair without arms. If you don't have a guitar, wait until after the demo. The teacher will look at your hands and advise on size and type, which saves you buying the wrong one.

If your internet is patchy, tell us. A phone on a mobile hotspot works fine for most lessons, and we can reschedule if the connection drops.
