Mumbai's real problem is getting there
Ask anyone who has tried to attend a weekly class in Mumbai, and the story is the same. The class itself is fine. Reaching it is the problem.
A lesson in Andheri when you live in Powai is a plan, not an errand. Add a Western Express Highway crawl or a packed local, and a 45-minute lesson eats most of the evening. In the monsoon, it can eat the whole evening. People skip a class once, then twice, and the guitar goes back in its case.
We skip the trip. You open a video call at eight or nine, after the commute home is over, and a teacher gives you one-to-one guitar on your own sofa.
02
Late slots for Mumbai schedules
We teach from 9 am to 10 pm every day. For most Mumbai professionals, that means a weekday lesson after you reach home, or a weekend morning before the day starts. Students who work shifts book whichever hour suits them.
There's no travel to cancel. If the rain is flooding the road outside, your lesson still happens, because the lesson is at home. If your power or internet fails mid-lesson, we reschedule rather than charge you for it.
03
One teacher, and you meet the teacher first
Arya Sen teaches the lessons and has played guitar for 12+ years and taught for 8+. Jam and Play has taught over 1,000 students across 40+ countries, so online teaching isn't a stopgap for us. It's how we've always worked.
Before you pay for anything, you take a free 30-minute demo. You play a first chord, the teacher gets a sense of what you want, and you decide. If it isn't the right fit, you leave with a practice plan and no bill. You can read more on the founder page.
04
What Mumbai students usually want to learn
In a city this large, goals vary a lot. Adults often want to play Hindi film songs on an acoustic guitar for friends. School children want a first instrument that isn't piano. College students want to join a band or play at fests and need rhythm and chords quickly.
We plan around the goal. If songs come first, read about Bollywood guitar lessons online. If you'd like a structured plan from the beginning, private lessons follow a month-by-month path.
05
A typical first month
Here's what a Mumbai beginner can expect. The details change with the student, but the pattern holds.
In lesson one, you learn how to hold the guitar and play two open chords. By lesson two you have four chords and a steady strum. Lesson three is about changing chords on time, which is the hardest part for most beginners. By lesson four, you play a short song from start to finish.
That pace assumes 15 to 20 minutes of practice a day. In a Mumbai week, that usually means ten minutes after dinner and a longer session on Sunday, which is enough for most students to keep moving.

Fees for Mumbai students
Two students from the same flat or the same class can take a shared lesson. A pack of four shared lessons costs ₹3,200. See online group guitar classes. Payments work by UPI, Razorpay, PayPal, Wise or Remitly.

Online lessons for Mumbai's busy kids
Mumbai children often have a packed week of school, tuition and sports. A lesson at home saves an hour of travel, and parents can sit nearby. Children can start at 8. Read online guitar lessons for kids for what the first month looks like.
If your child is thinking about a Trinity or Rockschool grade, we prepare students for the syllabus. See exam preparation. We aren't an exam centre, so the exam itself takes place at an authorised one.

How to start
If you've never taken a lesson online, the page on how online guitar lessons work explains every step, including where to put the camera.
- Book a free 30-minute demo.
- Join the Zoom or Meet link we send.
- Play your first chord in the same call.
- Decide at the end. No lock-in.
09
What you need
A guitar, a phone or laptop with a camera, and a chair without arms. If you don't own a guitar yet, wait. Come to the demo first, and the teacher will tell you what to buy and what to skip. Many Mumbai flats are small, so tell us if you need to play quietly, and we'll suggest practice habits that work for neighbours.
