01
Why people want Bollywood on guitar
Nobody picks up a guitar because they want to practise scales. They do it because a song got stuck in their head, and they want to play it for themselves, for friends, or at a family evening where someone hands over a guitar and says, "Play something."
Hindi film music suits the guitar well. Many songs from the last fifteen years are built on four open chords, with a steady strum underneath. That makes them a gentler start than a lot of Western pop, where chord shapes jump around.
We built these lessons around that fact. The song comes first, and the technique arrives as you need it.
02
Why chord sheets alone leave you stuck
Anyone can find chords for a Hindi song online. Thousands of pages list them. Lots of beginners try that route first, and many stall after two songs.
The chart tells you which chords to play, but it can't tell you why your strumming sounds stiff, or why the change from G to Em takes you three seconds. It can't see that your wrist is tense or that your thumb is sitting too high. A teacher who watches your hands can.
That's the gap we fill. You still use the songs you want. We fix the part that a chord sheet can't.
03
What a first month can look like
Here's a typical first month for a complete beginner. It changes with the student, but the rhythm stays the same.
Students who practise 15 to 20 minutes a day usually reach this point. If life gets busy and you practise less, the plan stretches. Nobody fails a guitar lesson.
| Lesson | What you work on | What you can play at the end |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Holding the guitar, naming the strings, two open chords | A two-chord loop that fits many songs |
| 2 | Four open chords and a steady down-strum | The chord sequence of a simple song |
| 3 | Changing chords on time, a basic strumming pattern | A verse at slow speed |
| 4 | Putting verse and chorus together, singing along | A short song start to finish |
04
Which Bollywood songs are easiest to start with
Slow, acoustic, romantic songs from the last 15 years are usually the easiest, because they sit on three or four open chords and use a steady rhythm. Songs with a heavy swing, quick chord changes or a lot of ornamental notes take longer.
Older film songs deserve a mention. They're often wonderful to play, but they tend to use more chords and a rhythm that's harder to feel at first. We usually save them for month two or three, once your changes are quicker.
Tell the teacher your favourite song at the demo. You'll get an honest answer: start with it now, or work towards it. That's more useful than a list of "top 10 easy songs", because the best first song is the one you'll actually practise.
05
What you learn along the way
Song-led lessons still teach the basics. They just do it in a different order. Along the way you pick up open chords, strumming patterns, how to keep time, how to change chords without stopping, how to use a capo, and how to read a simple chord chart on your own.
That last skill is the one that keeps paying off. After a few months, you can find a chord sheet for a new song and work out what the teacher would say about it. Students who reach that stage tend to keep learning without us standing over them.
Some students go on to fingerstyle or lead playing. Others stay with accompaniment, because singing and strumming is what they wanted all along. Both paths are fine.
06
Lessons in Hindi or English
The teacher speaks Hindi and English, and you choose the language at the demo. Many students use Hindi for explanation and English for chord names, since the chord names are the same everywhere. If you're an Indian family abroad and your child is more comfortable in English, that works too.
07
Who these lessons are for
Beginners aged 8 and above who'd like songs before theory. Adults in India who played years ago and want to restart. Teenagers who want to play at school events. And Indian families abroad, who often ask for a teacher who understands the music they grew up with.
If you live overseas, our live lessons run at times that suit your time zone. Read our pages for the UK and US for details.

How the lessons run online
Each lesson is 45 minutes, live on Zoom or Google Meet. You need a guitar, a phone or laptop with a camera, and a chair without arms. The teacher watches your hands, plays the part for you, then listens while you try. If this is your first online lesson, how online guitar lessons work explains each step.
