01

Pune has music schools. The problem is timing.

Pune has no shortage of places to learn guitar. It has a large student population, plenty of music institutes and a city that likes live music. The difficulty is fitting a fixed batch into a real week.

A 6 pm batch in Kothrud doesn't suit someone finishing a shift in Hinjewadi. A Saturday batch clashes with a Class 10 timetable. Miss two classes and you're behind the group, which means the third class is awkward and the fourth never happens.

A one-to-one online class works around you. You pick the slot, and if the week goes wrong you move it. The lesson is yours alone, so nobody is waiting.

02

Two kinds of Pune learner

Pune's students tend to fall into two groups, and both suit this format.

College and school students have free hours on weekends and early evenings. They usually want songs for college events, hostel evenings and friends. So we start with what they want to play and add technique as they need it.

Working professionals in Baner, Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Viman Nagar have unpredictable days. For them, a lesson that can be moved by a day, with notice, matters more than a studio near the office. They tend to practise late at night, which is fine for guitar if the neighbours don't mind.

03

What happens in the first lesson

You play. The first 30 minutes are a free demo, and the teacher asks what you want to play before showing you anything.

Beginners leave with a first chord and a simple rhythm. Returning players get a quick check of their hands, their timing and their chord changes, followed by a plan. Nobody has to sit through theory they didn't ask for.

The lesson runs on Zoom or Google Meet. If you've never taken an online lesson, how online guitar lessons work explains the setup.

04

Songs first, or structure first

Some Pune students want a Hindi film song in month one. Others want to learn from the ground up. Both approaches work, and the teacher will say honestly which one suits you.

Our Bollywood guitar lessons put a song first, with the technique built around it. Private online guitar lessons follow a structured plan, with each lesson adding one skill to the last.

In both cases, you practise for 15 to 20 minutes a day. That's the part that makes the difference, and it's the part we help you plan.

05

Your teacher

Arya Sen has played guitar for 12+ years and taught for 8+. Jam and Play has taught over 1,000 students across 40+ countries, and most lessons happen online. That means a Pune student gets the same teaching as a student in Dubai or Sydney. Read more on the founder page.

A budget that works for students

College students count every rupee, and we try to respect that. A single lesson costs ₹1,000, but the packs bring the price per lesson down.

Two students, such as flatmates or hostel friends, can share a lesson. A pack of four shared lessons costs ₹3,200, against ₹3,999 for a private pack. See online group guitar classes. You can pay by UPI, Razorpay, PayPal, Wise or Remitly, and there's no lock-in.

07

Grades and exams

Pune schools and music institutes often run Trinity and Rockschool exams. We teach the syllabus and prepare students to sit it. We're not an exam centre, so the exam itself happens at an authorised one. Details are on the exam preparation page.

If your child is starting from scratch, they can begin at 8. See online guitar lessons for kids.

08

What you need

You need a guitar, a phone or laptop with a camera, and a chair without arms. If you're in a hostel or a shared flat, a headphone-friendly setup helps, and the teacher can suggest quiet practice habits. Don't buy a guitar before the demo. The teacher will advise on size and type, and that avoids a common and expensive mistake.

09

Online or in a studio?

A studio class gives you a room, a group and a regular time. An online class gives you your own time and a teacher's full attention. If you value the social side, join a college band alongside your lessons. If you value progress and flexibility, the online route is hard to beat.

Students who've tried both often tell us the same thing: they practised more when the lesson was one-to-one, because nobody else was covering for them.
